May Meeting

A great meeting today at Panera Bread at 13th and Grant in Denver. Len Edgerly, Goldie Katsu, Ronald Lewis, Mat Luschek, and Paul Swansen all in attendance. Great conversation and discussion about New Media and how it relates to Colorado. We’ll have links up to the various streaming sources that were recorded during the meeting this morning, a bit later.

Boulder 2 Startupweekend

This weekend I’ve been watching this event transpire about 30 minutes north of me in Boulder, CO. Thanks to Mediacasters.tv, they’ve been blogging, twittering and seesmicing, the event. And also thanks to Jeff Pulver and Pulver.tv, there have been some broadcasts of the event and guest interviews as well.

A year ago, this sort of coverage of an event, was likely only a dream or maybe an idea on a list. Today, we have coverage, and while it’s raw, live T.V., warts and all, they’re out in Boulder broadcasting the event to the world.

I certainly hope that the debrief, on the event, what worked and what didn’t, brings an even better product to the next event covered.

A Conversation with Steve Garfield.

Fellow Denver Maker and co-founder of Denver Media Makers, Len Edgerly, recently had a conversation with Steve Garfield. Steve has hosted Boston Media Makers for the past two years and “He does talk about the nuts and bolts of moving toward making a living in this space, as well as what he’s learning right now about the new frontier of mobile live broadcasting.

So go ahead and download and give it a listen.

New/Social Media and the Political Conventions.

I posted a news item taken from the Denver Business Journal today over on my personal weblog, entitled, “Denver and the DNC Convention.”

This got me thinking about not only trials and opportunities here for us in Denver, but also, the opportunities for those who are in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, for the Republican National Convention, September 1-4, 2008. This will be the first time that a Presidential Election will have the tools of New Media, Social Media, Personal Broadcasting, Twitter, along with other internet tools not yet available or though of yet.

I’ve yet to do any research, (ie: Googleing) to see if there is any organized effort on anyone’s part to offer a personal view of either convention. This would also reach to those who are distrustful of the Main Stream Media, and want more than the :30 second sound bites, carefully crafted evening news stories, and the prime time coverage by the three Networks and the Cable News Networks.

I’ll assert that this is a great opportunity to show, the power and presence of this medium that we’re currently living and growing with on an hour by hour basis.

Recent Conversation

Recently I had the opportunity to have lunch and a conversation with Fred Ngo, CTO of StandoutJobs.com. Joining the lunch conversation were fellow web Coloradans Ronald Lewis and Jim Turner.

Saturday Meetup - StandoutJobs.com

Fred was kind enough to give us the opportunity to ask him about StandoutJobs.com and the process of bringing the company to launch. Ron Lewis did the honours of recording the interview.

First Meeting.

It was a sellout. Ok, so Len Edgerly and I were in attendance, and had a great time. Thanks for the kind follow up words, Doug Haslam and Mark Forman, and regrets, Goldie Katsu, and Kit Seeborg. We’ve taken the task now of more promotion and recruiting over the next two months and plan to have our next “formal” meeting on April 27th. It’s a Sunday so mark your calendars accordingly It will be held at the same location, the Panera Bread at 1330 Grant St, Denver, CO. We’ll plan on meeting at 10am.
